Simple Tips for Fast
and Reliable System Performance
|
-
Clean Prefetch for faster performance.
Go to Start menu, click Run.
Type "prefetch", click OK. Select all the icons and delete them. There is
likely unused links, and Windows will recreate only necessary links very
soon.
-
Make sure paging file is working as
efficiently as possible. For fast and reliable
system performance it is very important to have right paging file
configuration. It is recommended to have the paging file size 2 to 3 times
the amount of physical RAM. If you have several drives or partitions try to
place paging file somewhere other than boot partition or spread it evenly
across non-bootable partitions or drives. Do that by going to Control Panel,
then in the System applet click on the "Advanced" tab and then click
"Settings" button in the "Performance" portion of the window. Choose
"Advanced" tab and click "Change" button. In the "Virtual memory" window set
the amount and location of the paging file(s). And don't forget to click on
"Set" button after making any changes in "Virtual memory" window.
-
Partition your Hard Drive.
Partitioning your drive
appropriately will not only allow for fast and reliable system performance,
but will make your system more organized and your data more secured. If for
example for any reason you would have to reinstall your operating system you
could just format system partition and install fresh copy of Windows without
loosing data on other partitions.
